Opposition protests denial of response time for Leader Udhayanidhi Stalin regarding Chief Minister’s allegations.
Proceedings in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly were disrupted today as members of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) staged a walkout following a contentious exchange. The opposition party’s legislators expressed strong disapproval after the Speaker reportedly denied Leader of Opposition, Udhayanidhi Stalin, the opportunity to respond to allegations made by the Chief Minister.
The incident unfolded during discussions where the Chief Minister outlined measures for transparent governance and, in the process, reportedly leveled criticisms against the previous DMK administration. Following these remarks, Mr. Stalin sought permission to address the House and offer a rebuttal to the points raised.
However, the Speaker’s decision to not grant immediate permission for a response led to a swift escalation of tension. DMK members promptly moved towards the well of the House, displaying pamphlets and chanting slogans demanding their right to reply. Despite their protests, the Speaker maintained the ruling.
Subsequently, all DMK legislators exited the Assembly hall in protest, bringing a temporary halt to their participation in the ongoing session. The Chief Minister continued to elaborate on the government’s commitment to accountability and its initiatives for public welfare.
