CRRT Plans External Management for Tholkappia Poonga Upkeep

Move Aims to Enhance Maintenance of City’s Vital Ecological Park

The Chennai Rivers Restoration Trust (CRRT) has announced its decision to engage a private agency for the comprehensive maintenance of Tholkappia Poonga, widely recognized as Adyar Poonga. This strategic shift is intended to ensure the sustained ecological health and pristine condition of the significant urban wetland.

Tholkappia Poonga, a pioneering ecological restoration project along the Adyar River, plays a crucial role as a green lung for Chennai. Since its inception, it has been instrumental in restoring biodiversity and serving as an educational hub for environmental awareness.

Officials from CRRT anticipate that outsourcing the park’s upkeep to a specialized firm will bring enhanced efficiency and expertise in managing its diverse flora, fauna, and infrastructure. This initiative is expected to further improve the park’s ecological balance and the overall visitor experience.

The move underscores CRRT’s commitment to the long-term preservation and high-standard maintenance of one of Chennai’s most important environmental assets.
