AIIMS Madurai OPD Services Target January 2027 Launch

Centre Confirms Timeline to Madras High Court

Chennai residents and healthcare stakeholders note: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Madurai is slated to begin its full outpatient department (OPD) services from January 1, 2027. This timeline was officially communicated to the Madras High Court by the Central government.

The announcement comes as preparations continue for the establishment of the premier medical institution in the southern district. The court was apprised of the operational schedule during recent proceedings.

Notably, a public interest litigation (PIL) filed in 2021, which had sought the establishment of a temporary campus to offer both outpatient care and MBBS courses, was recently dismissed by the High Court. This decision clears the way for the institution’s primary development plan.

While other AIIMS facilities across the country have already commenced both academic programs and outpatient services, AIIMS Madurai’s full operational launch for its OPD is now firmly set for the beginning of 2027, according to the Centre’s submission.
